Some True and False Fun with the Arborists

TACOMA–When considering tree service, make sure you choose a knowledgeable arborist before signing on any dotted lines. Arborists have extensive training in tree science, and are required to keep up their certification with additional training. Here are a few True and False tree care questions for fun.

1. My fruit trees don’t need pruning, and if they do, I can manage it myself.

True or False?

Probably false. Unless you have extensive background with fruit trees or pruning experience, you may actually do more harm than good. It’s vital to cut off dead or non-producing branches but to also do so in a way that doesn’t damage the tree or its basic functions. Regular, correct pruning can keep fruit trees not only healthy, but producing at their peak.

2. That stump will rot out eventually or I can just take it out when I have a few hours to spare.

True or False?

A bit true, but mostly false. Yes, we live in a very wet climate and your stump may eventually disintegrate into pulp, but depending on its size, it could sit there and be an eyesore in your yard for decades. Rotten stumps tend to attract pests as well, which could be detrimental to your other trees. And if the tree has any diameter of significance, digging and hacking it out of the ground is guaranteed to take more than a few hours, probably ruin your weekend or week, and probably give you a sore back.

3. I have an unstable tree, but if a storm brings it down on my house, I have insurance to cover any damage.

True or False?

Probably false. Not all homeowner’s insurance will cover tree storm damage to your home or vehicle, and even if they do, water damage and the time and hassle involved are probably not how you want to spend your valuable time and effort. Furthermore, if a tree was found to be unstable (aka neglected maintenance by the homeowner) your insurance might NOT pick up the tab. Why take the risk? Call us and we’ll have it down quickly with the right expertise and equipment. No more worries on stormy nights.

4. The condition of the trees on my property has no real bearing on my home’s value, so why spend money on their upkeep?

True or False?
False. Neglected landscaping can be a big detriment to curb appeal and sale value. It carries the appearance of a neglected home as well. Ever notice how those brand new communities under construction spend a lot of time and money landscaping the properties to sell? There’s a reason for that. Have your yard pruned, trimmed, and tidied by our professional aborists.

5. I can just pay the kid down the street a few bucks to trim my hedges and my trees.

True or False?

True, but probably not the best plan. Maybe instead have the kid mow your lawn and bring in an expert for the tree and shrub pruning instead. If your temporary neighborhood help gets injured, that can be a hassle and expense as well.
